This is part of our monthly Lunch and Learn series. So the way it works is every month is a new topic, and then we will open it up at the end for questions. And we really want this to be an interactive session, but really wanted to focus on maintenance this month because it is a hot topic and a new product release that was just announced yesterday. So we’re excited to get started, and I will transfer you over to Emily to take it away.

Thanks Alyx. Hi everyone. My name is Emily Shepherd. I’m a product manager at Nulaji. And today, like Alyx mentioned, we’re here to talk about maintenance, a new product that Nulaji is excited to launch. So over the next 30 minutes, I’m going to be sharing kind of what we’re hearing from customers that led us to launch this new exciting product. And I’m excited to show you what we’ve been building.

So the plan for today, we’re going to spend probably roughly 30 minutes on more me presenting. And then like Alyx mentioned, lots of time for questions at the end. We’ll start with kind of the reality of maintenance on the floor, the problems most of you and your teams might be living with today. We’ll talk through what it looks like to move from more reactive maintenance to more proactive maintenance. The bulk of our time will be in a live demo of Nulogy’s new maintenance management tool.

And then as mentioned, we’ll close off with that Q &A.

So let’s start here where most of you probably are today, maintenance on the shop floor. So as most of you know, downtime on the shop floor can hit kind of hard and fast. And a lot of you probably have a maintenance program in place. You may have another system in place that’s managing maintenance. But whether or not that maintenance is talking to your other tools, if it’s really aware of what

you know, are the priorities on the floor, what orders you’re working on. That’s where, you know, we hear customers sometimes run into challenges. And when that downtime hits and your lines get stopped, you you lose production unexpectedly and keeping up with the maintenance of various machines or other supporting assets really becomes, you know, critical in your world.

And so with a lot of maintenance tools that we see out there and that a lot of our customers use, one of the biggest things we hear is that a lot of maintenance tools are built a bit horizontally. They’re built for multiple industries, the same maintenance systems that are used for maintaining oil drilling and pipeline are used to maintain machines that make ice cream at McDonald’s.

they’re not necessarily built with the mindset of managing plant floor execution. A lot of maintenance is based on calendars, doing something every week, every month, which is better than doing no maintenance at all, but in some cases can lead to over-maintaining healthy assets, doing more even if you’re not using certain machines. And then a lot of cases may be under-maintaining different assets if you are using them more and if they’re more critical.

for the production that you’re currently working on. Those real failures tend to hit in between that planned maintenance, that calendar driven maintenance. And with a CMMS that sits outside of your production execution system, it’s really hard to connect both in terms of planning, right? Planning when to do maintenance in a way that doesn’t disrupt your schedule, as well as just overall being able to tie any maintenance efforts that you’re making.

to your actual uptime, to your OEE.

And so after talking to a lot of our customers, this is kind of what we’ve heard. People say they’re really looking for. First off, we have real maintenance or real-time maintenance that’s triggered off of the actual usage of the machine and the actual condition of the machine. Clear prioritization, right? Based on what you’re actually running, based on which assets are most important to keep up and running for your overall production.

We still want those kind of simple workflows for maintenance teams, know, especially lean teams that are really needing to be strategic about where maintenance efforts are placed. And again, at the end of the day, we want that combined view of maintenance right alongside production and how those two go hand in hand, right? The goal of maintenance should be to keep, you know, your operations running smoothly, keep your lines running, keep making sure that you’re attaining your production goals.

And again, having that combined view of everything in one system is really important for that shift from more reactive to proactive maintenance.

And so this is where from Nulogy side, when we think about our products, we are building out Nulogy’s manufacturing operating system platform, our MOS platform. And a lot of you on the call today are probably looking at these four pillars, production, compliance, maintenance, warehouse, and you’re likely using, you know, one, maybe two of the pillars here, you know, especially for customers here who may be using.

our shop floor solution or our smart factory solution. You’re very focused today on the production side. And this is where highlighting that maintenance piece, that’s what we’re going to be focusing on today. How maintenance gets integrated into the Nulogy platform. And again, we can drive towards that more kind of connected product and experience where production and maintenance really go hand in hand. And in this small

platform across that bottom, see workflows, integrations, data. These are all things with Nulogy that really help connect our products. And as they continue to evolve over time, that’s where we’ll start to really unify and connect all of these different pieces of data to really, again, shift from the more reactive, just maybe strictly calendar-based maintenance to the more

more proactive maintenance that’s really driven by your production priorities.

Okay, so here’s a bit of an overview. Like Alyx said, we recently launched Nulogy maintenance management. And this is a tool that is really built specifically with Nulogy’s customers in mind, right? Manufacturers, co-packers, 3PLs. This is a tool that is built primarily on Nulogy Smart Factory platform for kind of core maintenance workflows and for that connectivity to your different machines.

and assets throughout your facility, but it also leverages parts of shop floor when it comes to spare part inventory for maintenance. And being able to leverage some of Nulogy’s existing products, existing functionality in a maintenance context means that we can easily do things like convert signal coming directly from your machines, whether that’s counts or other types of data like temperature, vibrations.

any signals that could really drive maintenance, we can convert that into maintenance orders, tasks for your maintenance team to look at. It’s a very connected experience between what you’re actually running from a production perspective and any maintenance that’s required to support that. And having, again, all of this within Nulogy system from a reporting perspective creates that closed loop from an issue happening, action being initiated and a fix being put in place. And then

performance being recovered, you can actually see the impact that maintenance is having on your overall OEE.

And so talking a little bit about neulogy maintenance and how maintenance orders can be triggered in this system. And I want to clarify this can be for production assets, your machines, anything directly related to what you’re producing, as well as just any, you know, assets that might need maintenance in your facility, forklifts, different equipments, all can be managed within this tool. And then we have kind of these four ways that maintenance can be triggered.

We do still have kind of the calendar based option, especially for any machines or assets that we aren’t directly connected to from a sensor perspective, you can still run calendar based preventative maintenance in our tool. But we can also get that machine usage and whether that’s based on actual cycles and, you know, usage data we’re collecting from the machines or based on meter readings that your team can input, that that can also trigger maintenance.

I mentioned earlier machine health, you we’re talking about temperature, vibrations, current draws, any type of sensor that you can hook onto a machine can feed into maintenance and be a trigger for a maintenance order if anything looks unusual. And then of course, any operators or ad hoc requests can also be created. And in particular for smart factory customers today, this becomes really helpful because operators who are using the system already,

can request for maintenance directly from the production run, no need to leave systems, no need to hunt anyone down or use radios to get maintenance attention. It’s all done directly from the same application that users are already working in. And on this point, pretty soon, we will be able to have maintenance created by scanning QR codes too, which will be really exciting.

more for, I would say, for shop floor customers because you could have different QR codes on different machines throughout your facility and have anyone who notices an issue that requires maintenance scan that QR code and create that maintenance order.

And again, on that kind of data analysis side, especially in cases where we are connected directly to the machines, we’re getting all types of data that you can visualize, report on in the system, and again, used to trigger maintenance. So on the right here, we have a couple of examples looking at temperature and vibration, and any spikes or trends can automatically be set up in the system to trigger maintenance.

And again, that’s just kind of the system monitoring the data and what’s coming in and really shifting towards that more proactive approach where the system is detecting, you know, the current state of the machine and then flagging if anything, you know, need some attention from a maintenance perspective.

And so just quickly before I get into the demo of the actual product, just wanted to kind of give an overview of what to expect and kind of some of the more details of what we’re offering when it comes to maintenance. So I like to think of kind of two main personas or types of people who might be leveraging maintenance. First is more from the maintenance manager side, maintenance supervisor. We have quite a few options more on the website.

of the application when it comes to planning maintenance. So setting up those schedules, creating templates, setting up those triggers for any proactive maintenance, being able to just manage your overall assets, again, whether that’s your production assets or just other assets that would require some form of maintenance, setting up any parts that are required for maintenance, and doing any ordering of those parts. And then finally,

of more of the measurement side, right? The analytics, being able to connect that maintenance information to your production information and leveraging some of the AI tools that are in the application to really help analyze that data.

And then we have more of the mobile side of the application. This is the piece that’s really primarily used by maintenance techs, people who are on the go, who need to be able to get flagged and do all of their work directly from a mobile device. So we have a kind of mobile portion of maintenance management as well so that, again, maintenance techs can be alerted with notifications, a work queue, details of exactly what to do and how to perform various maintenance tasks.

and then be able to record their work. So add comments, track any part consumption, take photos. And this mobile piece of the tool is available in offline mode as well in case there’s maintenance that’s being done in parts of the warehouse with less reliable connection. So in my demo, I’ll show both sides of the maintenance tool as well, the more web view and the mobile view.

Okay, so with that, I’m going to switch over into the application and start giving you a bit of a more of an in-depth overview of maintenance here. So starting off here, we are looking at a dashboard. I this could be a good starting point just to kind of give an overall view of some of the pieces that we have in maintenance management.

Anyone who uses Moology Smart Factory will notice that I am, you know, within Smart Factory, maintenance is built on top of it, but it is a separate component. If you have both Smart Factory and maintenance, they do work well together, but maintenance can also exist without some of the other more production focused pieces of Smart Factory. And so this dashboard here is giving me kind of an overview of maintenance orders that have been created over time. And

I’m looking at kind of maintenance that has been created compared to maintenance that’s actually been completed. Over here, I can have a list of some of the details of the completed maintenance, things like what the task number was, kind of what the actual task was, kind of overall status, completion, overall duration of how long it took me to complete it. And then over here, I have kind of my open maintenance orders.

And I should mention some of the reporting here, or not some, all of the reporting here is very customizable. So all the dashboards in the system, very simple to edit. You can come in here, choose a variety of different types of visuals, whether that’s, you know, just specific KPIs that you want to highlight, some of those tables, various types of charts, lots of different ways in here that you can customize this dashboard to look at exactly what your team is interested in.

And if I come down here, we can see currently kind of what my maintenance looks like from a type perspective. So reactive, preventative, corrective. And this is where we see, you know, a lot of teams nowadays are doing a lot more reactive maintenance. You know, there’s an issue that happens and then you have maintenance come look at it rather than getting ahead of things a little bit. We also see kind of a breakdown here of maintenance orders by different assets. So you can easily see, you know,

currently where most of your maintenance assets are, or sorry, where most of your maintenance efforts are being directed.

And so now I’m going to get into some of those different ways. I have that slide with the four different options of how maintenance can be created, starting with more of that, a little more reactive way where, you know, an operator is working on a line. In this case, it’s Charlie and an issue is noticed. And so they want to have kind of a maintenance request go over to maintenance. So directly from kind of my main screen here, I can come in here.

and I have a form to request maintenance, you can say something like, oops, I just had some stuff here kind of pre-ready. So maybe the conveyor belt is slipping on this machine. We want to provide a little bit of information to the maintenance tech that’s going to be looking at this. And it’s as simple as just submitting that. If I pop over here to maintenance, we have one of our main kind of web views for maintenance. It’s kind of a…

But it’s a Kanban style view where you’re looking at a specific queue. This is my queue for the California facility. And down here we can see that maintenance order that just came in from Charlie. And whether this is a maintenance manager that’s looking at this, who can open this, triage it, make sure it looks good, change the priority, change the status, assign it to different users. These are all kind of options that are available.

And from here, you can manage things on the desktop side, or in a little bit, I’ll show what this looks like on the mobile app. So we can move things in progress that update some of the metrics behind the scenes so that, again, later on, you can report on exactly how long your different maintenance tasks are taking. So that was one way for that operator request for maintenance coming directly here.

Before I get into the mobile side, I’m just gonna flip over and show kind of another way that maintenance can be created. So going more into the admin side, we have maintenance schedules. And so this is where we really start to shift from that more reactive maintenance, right? I just showed an issue has already happened, an operator requests maintenance to now, you know, we’re setting up some…

triggers in the system, some schedules so that maintenance is created a little more proactively, either based on how much you’re using the system or based on calendars for anything that we’re not directly connected to with sensors. So over here I have a couple of examples, starting with my forklift. This is where we can still handle that just calendar-based maintenance, something that can be set up to recur on

daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis. It’s very configurable and you can decide kind of what assets this is for as well as if any template should be used for this maintenance. And if I come over here to the next one, we have this bearing change. This is more of a schedule that’s based on runtime. So we have those different options, calendar, meter, runtime. So this is actually looking at

the number of hours or you could even look at cycles on a particular machine and use that to drive maintenance. So that’s maintenance that gets automatically created, again, based off of a template. And there’s kind of like no touch involved apart from the initial setup. And then my last example here is just based off of the meter reading. So for anything that again, isn’t, you know, directly connected to the system with

sensors or direct kind PLC connections, we have the option to come into the system and update meter readings. Very simple. You can go around, update a current reading, and then again, based on the schedule, different maintenance orders will get created. So I’m going to go in and go back to Charlie and kind of simulate what that looks like if we were to have hit our 100 hours and have maintenance get

Okay, so you can imagine here we’ve been running the machine, we hit that 100 hours and on my phone here, which I’ll show in a second, I just received a notification from Nulogy that a maintenance order got created. Just showing here on the desktop side, we have that change bearing maintenance order that just got created. Again, it’s based off of a template. So there are checklist items added. We can view the production run that

triggered this maintenance. We have some part information that’s already kind of pre-populated based on the template I was using, as well as any attachments for work instructions related to this particular maintenance. So I’m going to close this on the desktop side and I will change my sharing to show more of the mobile side.

And when I come into the app here, this is kind of my main view as a maintenance tech. So I’m looking here at tasks. Again, I’m looking at the California queue and right at the top here, we have that change bearing maintenance order that got created. This is what we just viewed on the desktop side with all the same information. We have that checklist, any parts that might be used, a place to comment. And again, across the top, we have instructions and attachments.

With attachments, I also have the option from mobile to attach any pictures or anything that I take. So if I come over here and I start the task, this is where I can start checking off items as I complete them. I can enter in number of parts. And again, with attachments, that’s where I could potentially come in and take some photos.

So I’ll save that progress again, come back here. We can see that overall queue as well as the task that had been manually created from the operator screen here with again, those comments.

to the website of things here. And I just wanted to highlight for this, we’ll go with the change bearings one. So if I move that kind of in progress, which is what happened on the mobile side, I wanted to just stop here and highlight on the parts screen. So this is where really we’re looking to track any maintenance parts that were used for maintenance. And you can see directly here, I can see more than just

kind of the part itself, I can actually see the location where this part is located in my facility. And I mentioned earlier for anyone who’s familiar with Nulogy ShotFloor, that’s kind of the piece that we’re leveraging to be able to surface this location information. So if I have kind of these maintenance bearings, they’re in different locations, I just have to come in here and say, I’ve used them, you maybe I used four and

I used it from location B. And when I save that, and if I were to kind of move this over to complete, that’s where we can now see that location B has been updated because four have been used for this actual maintenance order. And if I come over to kind of the inventory view on the shop floor side, we can see for maintenance bearings that

part has actually been consumed by the maintenance order in the maintenance system. So we’re really leveraging some of the inventory capability across, know, Nulogy solutions to really be able to track and allow you to report on any maintenance parts that are used.

The last piece I wanted to show kind of in the demo itself is coming back to more of the admin side. We talked a little bit about those templates. So these are templates that can be set up in advance, again, with information about, you know, the overall maintenance work that’s going to need to be done, including checklists. Again, if we have any parts that are going to be needed, this is where we’ll be able to select those, select a quantity that’s expected to be used.

And then again, upload any attachments around exactly, you know, what’s going to be needed or just supporting documentation around any maintenance for a particular asset.

Okay, so that’s kind of what I wanted to cover from a demo perspective when it comes to maintenance. And just to kind of recap overall, again, switching from that more reactive maintenance mode or strictly calendar-based maintenance to the more integrated option where maintenance and production are really going hand in hand and maintenance is being automatically created off of the actual production that you’re doing.

Typically, what we’ve heard from customers who have kind of been trying out Moology maintenance is that having maintenance tied so close to production really can lead to less unplanned downtime because issues are caught early, right? Especially in cases where we’re connected directly to the machine, any unusual reading, any unusual kind of data that’s coming in,

can trigger that maintenance right away, as well as just general usage, right? Very similar to, you know, anyone who drives cars when your, you know, oil light comes on based on how much you’ve driven. That’s kind of what we’re talking here, where Nulogy has the information on how much your lines are actually being used, and can use that to help plan out when maintenance is happening. And again, do kind of overall smarter maintenance efforts because you’re

doing more when you’re using machines more and it’s needed and doing less when you have machines that haven’t been used and don’t need as frequent maintenance. We have kind of overall faster time to repair again because maintenance is so connected to some of the other parts of the system that your users are already using that are more production-based. Again, we have that

parts visibility as well. So you have a system to track your maintenance parts, be able to reorder maintenance parts if needed. And then again, at the end of the day, maintenance data sits right alongside your production data. And so it’s really easy to see how the two kind of go hand in hand and kind of influence each other.

As we come in, I just want to share a quick story with you because I came from the Smart Factory team and one of my favorite customer stories about maintenance actually came from one of our customers at H &T Waterbury, Connecticut. They make battery casings and they had Smart Factory software tied in so well with their CMMS system that

there would be tickets issued when machines would start to go out of compliance. So their vibrations will be starting to not be out of spec, but starting to go to that. Temperatures might be varying more or less. But it also gave them really good production data. So for example, when you’re making battery cases, you’re not making double A’s and triple A’s the same amount each day. Supply and demand is always going to have those orders vary. And they found that there was one machine

that was constantly going out of vibration range, but it wasn’t consistent. And they couldn’t figure out why. And they realized after looking at the production data and tying it in with their CMMS system, that C-type batteries on that particular machine caused it to go out of variation more frequently than any other battery type. So when they are doing production scheduling, they are able to determine what type of battery cases went to specific machines.

to help keep those machines running longer and to lower those occurrences of maintenance tickets. So it was one of the inspirations that we brought to bring everything into one system and one dashboard. So it was really easy to see that data. Sorry, this is one of my favorite stories, Emily.

We do have a question from Simon. Does this work for non-production assets like forklifts?

Yeah, so we can track any type of asset really. It’s very flexible in the system how different assets can be set up. And again, we can track both assets that we are connected to directly, maybe like your machines that are directly on the production line, as well as any assets that aren’t monitored whatsoever. So those can be created either based off of a calendar, just created ad hoc,

or like I mentioned, those meter readings. If it is something that, you know, does have some reading that drives maintenance, but you don’t want to go about the effort to, you know, connect with it upfront, you can manually enter those meter readings, but still have maintenance, you know, orders automatically get triggered.

Okay, great. We have another question here from Beth. How does this connect to shop floor?

So currently there’s a few different ways that this can connect to shop floor. So obviously I covered the inventory side of things, right? That’s huge. Anyone who’s using shop floor today for more production inventory, production parts, you’d be using the same exact system from a maintenance part perspective. So you could set up kind of part masters as well as locations for maintenance inventory itself. And then

as I showed, you’ll have that kind of connection back and forth between maintenance and shop floor to adjust your inventory levels based on what’s actually used for maintenance. And then the other piece that can be available for shop floor until we have those, that QR code scanning is really any type of automation, right? Across all Nulogy products, we have our connect platform that can enable kind of workflow automations.

So you could definitely be a shop floor customer who has a downtime reason set up related to maintenance and have a workflow set up so that when a line or when a job is paused for maintenance related reasons, we can connect over to maintenance and still create that maintenance order. And of course your maintenance texts would be using the mobile app I use today, receive that notification and still go over to the line and help.

There are a few options today when it comes to a shop floor customer who wants to leverage the maintenance management solution.

So with the barcode scanning piece that we’re going to be building out, that’s kind of the vision there that you don’t need to be logged in, you don’t need to have an actual kind of user setup on the maintenance side to be able to submit that request.

Okay, it’s in ours, our machines have individual barcode tags so that they can be scanned for when, say, somebody does need to do some sort of maintenance, you can scan it and it’ll bring up all the information based on that barcode for that entire machine.

Okay. It’s a great question. We do have kind of an API for, for maintenance. So we are pretty flexible when it comes to, you know, how those maintenance orders get created into the system. If you’re interested, you know, I would definitely encourage you to reach out. We probably need a bit more of a follow-up deep dive with you to just learn a little bit more about the existing asset tags. But our goal would be as, as some,

to make it as easy as possible, right? To transition maintenance programs from other CMMSs to Nulogy. So we definitely, you know, be interested in working with you to make that possible.

Good question. So implementation, it’ll vary depending on both kind of where you are today with Nulogy, if you’re using any other products and you want to leverage maintenance. For example, if you’re a SmartFactory customer and we already have some hardware installed, we’re already connecting some information, some of the implementation will look a little bit different.

Also, if there are any new assets that you want hardware installed for that will also be included, but overall kind of in terms of implementation, it’s still a relatively kind of short cycle where we start off with just some of that kind of planning. So working with you to figure out exactly, you know, what assets are going to be getting created. What will we be connected to if there are any

If there’s any data that needs to be migrated from an existing system into Nulogy maintenance, we’ll kind of plan that out and help with that. We’ll go through some training when it comes to going a lot more in depth with what I’ve demoed today, making sure that you and your team are really comfortable with some of the different options and how to set up maintenance and actually execute on it. And then we’ll kind of go through some of that pilot and go live, make sure things are smooth.

that we’re getting the data that we need to trigger maintenance. And again, that you and your team are set up and running smoothly with maintenance. So overall, very similar to probably what you would expect when it comes to working with Neulichy to adopt kind of one of our new products.
